Throughout the weekend, participants will learn the principles of portrait painting, from composition and colour mixing to brushwork and capturing likeness.

The course will cover essential topics such as blocking in the initial shapes, establishing tonal and colour relationships, anatomy, and rendering the form. Students will learn how to capture the unique characteristics and emotions of the sitter, bringing their portraits to life.

Through demonstration, and personalised feedback, students will develop a strong foundation in portrait painting enabling them to create compelling and expressive portraits.

This course is aimed at beginners and painters at intermediate level.

The Tutor

Nina is a professional painter with a particular love for portraiture. Using the traditional technique of oil painting she depicts people in neutral, relaxed poses, often in a larger context - an interior

that reflects the character, or landscape - to convey a certain mood or feeling.

Each painting attempts to express the emotional landscape of being human through composition and colour.

Nina received classical training from the Florence Academy of Classical Art and Sergey Chubirko’s Chiaro-Scuro Atelier. Nina was a finalist in the Sky Portrait Artist of the Year, Season 9 (2022)
